Hit 500 commits on my practice repo and it finally clicked

I've been doing tutorials for about 7 months, mostly copying code and nodding along. Last Tuesday I crossed 500 commits on a dummy project where I rebuild small features from scratch, no looking at the answer first. Did anyone else need a big dumb milestone like that before things started making sense, or was I just too stubborn to learn faster?

500 commits on a dummy project is wild in the best way, most people quit way before that. The thing that stands out to me is the "no looking at the answer first" part, cause that's really what's doing the work here. Rebuilding from scratch forces your brain to actually pull the info out instead of just watching it go by, which is way harder and why it takes so many reps to stick.
