Showerthought: the barista at the shop on 5th said she tastes every batch before it goes out
I was waiting for my pour over at this place near my office in Portland and the barista mentioned she slurps a spoon of every new batch before pulling shots. Said if it tastes off she dumps the whole thing, even a fresh bag. I always just brewed whatever and drank it no matter what. Now I taste a spoonful first and I've dumped 2 batches this month that were flat. Anyone else actually do the taste test thing or am I just wasting beans?

Man, I feel this in my soul. I used to just grind whatever was on sale and choke it down with enough cream to hide the sadness. Then my roommate got me one of those little cupping spoons as a joke gift and now I actually use it. Dumped a whole bag last week that tasted like wet cardboard and I felt sick about the money but also weirdly proud? It's wild how much you notice once you start paying attention. That barista is doing you a favor even if your wallet hates her.
