The community college counselor who told me I was wasting my time
I went back to my old campus last month to pick up a transcript and stopped by the advising office. The same counselor who watched me drop out 3 years ago was still there. She asked what I was doing now and I told her about my HVAC work, making $28 an hour with no debt. She said that was a shame because I had 'potential' for a four year degree. I laughed and walked out, but it got me thinking. Has anyone else had a professor or counselor act like dropping out means you failed, even when things worked out fine?
That's exactly why the whole "wasted potential" line is just their way of coping with a system that doesn't have a box for people who found their own path.
