Two years ago I was failing intro stats at UW, last Friday I ran the numbers on a $14k parts order without blinking
I dropped out of the University of Washington in 2023 mostly because of one class, intro stats, which I failed twice and just could not get my head around. Back then I would stare at a page of numbers and my brain would just shut off, and I remember sitting in the parking lot after the second F thinking I was too dumb for anything involving math. These days I manage inventory and ordering at a small auto parts shop in Kent, and last Friday I put together a $14,000 order across three suppliers. I did it all on a spreadsheet I built myself, with formulas I looked up on YouTube over probably six months of lunch breaks. The funny part is I use the exact same stuff from that stats class, percentages, averages that kind of thing, I just needed it attached to something real instead of homework. Nobody handed me a second chance, I just got tired of guessing how much brake fluid to reorder. My old roommate still texts me when his homework numbers look weird, which cracks me up. Any other dropouts out there find a subject finally clicked once it had a paycheck tied to it?
