I called surface supplied diving a lazy man's rig for years, then did 4 months in the Gulf and ate my words
When I came up in the 90s out of Seattle we did everything on scuba, and I figured the guys on the hat were just spoiled or scared of a little weight on their backs. I spent 11 years turning my nose up at it. Then I took a job running a 4 inch suction on a pipeline job off Port Fourchon and after 5 hours working in a strong current, my scuba days started looking pretty dumb in the rearview. Down there you can stay in the water 6 hours and the only thing tired at the end is your arm, not your whole body from dragging tanks around. It is not soft, it is just the right tool, and I was wrong about it for a long time. Any of you old scuba guys finally come around on the hat, or are some of you still stubborn about it like I was?
