Overheard a dive sup say something that stuck with me all week

I was on a barge off Port Fourchon last Tuesday, waiting out a surface interval, and our supervisor was chewing out two tenders about their dressing. He said, 'Your gear is the only thing between you and a permanent vacation.' It was blunt, but it hit me. Ive been guilty of ignoring a worn seal or a stiff hose fitting when jobs are stacking up, and that comment made me double-check everything on my own kit that night. Any of yall got a sup or senior diver quote that actually changed how you work?
