Took me 9 years to figure out I was breathing off the wrong tank valve on deep jobs
Last Tuesday I was on a 60 foot inspection in the Houston ship channel and my reg started breathing stiff about 20 minutes in. I always cracked the main valve all the way open and then turned the backup back a quarter turn like my first tender taught me. A guy named Ray on the same job saw me reaching for the backup and said the quarter turn thing was for the old J valves and I was just starving my primary the whole dive. Pulled both tanks after and the primary was fine, my reg was just fighting a half closed valve. Anyone else still running that old habit from whoever trained them first?
