Dropped $3,200 on a used layout laser for my crew and it cut our punch list time in half
Bought a used Trimble layout laser about 8 months ago for $3,200 off a guy closing his own shop. My foreman thought I lost my mind. He said we had a transit and a tape measure and that was good enough for the last 15 years. First job we used it on was a 12,000 sq ft clinic buildout in Madison. We set every interior wall line and door opening in two days instead of the week it normally takes. But here is the other side of it. I talked to a super over in Green Bay who bought the same kind of setup and hated it. His deal was that his guys never learned to do layout by hand, so when the laser went down for a week waiting on a part, nobody could lay out a wall without it. That is the part I keep chewing on. So which is it, is this stuff a real money saver or does it make your crew soft? Curious what other people are seeing on their jobs.
