Heard a guy at the supply house say "the best review is the one they write on the invoice" and it stuck with me
I was standing in line at the counter last Thursday waiting on a will call order and this older plumber behind me was talking to the guy next to him about how he never chases online reviews. He said customers who are happy will pay the bill, write a quick note right on the invoice like "great work, thanks Dave" and that note is worth more to him than 50 stars because it lives in his file in his own words. I kind of blew it off at first but then I got to thinking about how I handled my own reviews. Last fall I did a bathroom rough in for a lady in Brookside and she was thrilled, handed me a check same day, told me she'd tell her neighbors. I never asked her for anything more and sure enough two months later her neighbor called me off just her word. On the flip side I had a couple jobs where I pushed hard for a Google review and got 4 stars with a gripe about my truck blocking the driveway, which honestly tanked my average for no good reason. So now I'm trying something different, I just ask folks to jot a line on the invoice or shoot me a text I can screenshot, nothing formal. Has anyone else had better luck getting real feedback that way instead of chasing star ratings?
