The roofer who showed up 4 hours late changed my whole review system
I used to flame any contractor who ran behind. Like, if you say 8am, I expect 8am. Then last month in Pittsburgh I had a roofer roll in at noon after I already rescheduled my whole day. He didn't apologize, just said 'your neighbors have three missing shingles, I drove past at 6am and grabbed extras.' He then patched my flashing too, fixed a valley that wasn't even in the quote. Charged me the same $500. Now I ask contractors what happened before I judge the delay. Has anyone else gotten better work from a late guy, or did I just get lucky?

Being late is being late, no way around that. A guy who can't show up when he says has zero respect for your time, and that's the real issue. One good job doesn't fix a pattern of bad habits, so you probably just got lucky this time.
