Site super's brake-check advice turned out to be right

Old foreman in Tulsa kept yelling at me to pre-check the load line brake before every lift, said it would bite me during a long setup. Today we had a 180 ton pick and my secondary brake stuck right at the top, ended up swinging the load into a formwork wall. He was dead on, how often do you guys actually test that brake before a big lift?

Foreman's are just paid to make us feel dumb, but that brake test just saved your wallet from a much worse lawsuit. Skip it once and the crane gods will make you pay for it every time.
