A chat with my niece about her school project made me miss my old notebooks
She's in 8th grade and had to write a story for class. I asked if she was using the laptop the school gave her, and she said 'No, we have to use this app that checks for AI.' It hit different because I remember filling up three spiral notebooks with terrible fantasy stories at her age, just for fun. No one was checking if the ideas were mine, they just were. Do you think writing tools now make the actual creative part harder?

Maybe it's just a different kind of hard now. The tools change but the blank page is always tough.

Totally get that. The blank page feels the same whether it's a notebook or a new doc. All the fancy tools just give us new ways to feel stuck sometimes. The hard part is still starting, you know, putting the first real word down. It's weird how that never really changes.
