Pro tip: Stop obsessing over that 830 credit score, it's not helping you

I overheard a guy at the coffee shop in Austin bragging about hitting 830 and how he keeps chasing 840. But I think people waste too much time micromanaging their scores once you're over 760. The difference in rates between a 780 and an 850 is basically nothing, like 0.1% on a mortgage. Has anyone else just stopped caring after crossing 760 and focused on other stuff instead?

Read a study once that said FICO stops caring after 760 for most loans.

My buddy actually hit 800 and then immediately got denied for a car loan because he had two late payments from three years ago. I guess the score only gets you in the door, the rest is all history and debt ratios. Idk, feels like there's always some fine print they don't mention.
