Wasted $80 on a 'lifetime' VPN subscription that lasted a year

I signed up for this VPN called ShieldSecure back in 2022 because they promised it would work forever for one payment. Then last month they just shut down without any warning, no refunds, nothing. Lost all my connection history and had to switch to a monthly plan with ProtonVPN instead. Anybody else get burned by a VPN company that vanished?

yeah but what exactly was their "lifetime" policy even say in the fine print? i had a similar thing happen with a company called SecureNet back in 2021, they just stopped responding to support tickets for 3 months before the site went dark. did you try to get your money back through your bank or credit card? i used a chargeback and actually got my $60 back from that other scam company, but it took like 6 weeks.
