I finally stopped buying expensive HDMI cables after learning this

I used to drop $40 on gold-plated HDMI cables at Best Buy thinking they made a difference. Then a buddy who builds home theaters showed me a blind test where a $7 cable looked exactly the same as a $100 one on a 4K TV. Has anyone else fallen for this or am I the only sucker who wasted money for years?

Oh man, you are definitely not the only one. I read an article a few years ago from a tech reviewer who actually cut open a bunch of these expensive cables. Turns out the guts inside the cheap ones and the pricey ones were nearly identical, just different plastic jackets. Digital signals are just 1s and 0s, so as long as the cable isn't broken or too long, it either works or it doesn't. I bought a three-pack of basic ones for like 15 bucks off Amazon a couple years back and my 4K Roku looks just as sharp as it did with the fancy Monster cable I used to have. It feels like a dirty trick they play on people who don't know any better.
