Fell for that 'open box deal' on a laptop at Best Buy last month

Paid $650 for what they called 'excellent condition' but the battery was swollen and the trackpad barely clicked. Did anyone else get burned by those open box discounts or was I just unlucky?

Heard from a buddy who used to work at Best Buy that open box stuff is seriously hit or miss depending on the store. Some locations just slap a discount on anything returned without actually checking it, especially if it's from online orders. I'd say you got pretty unlucky though, at $650 for that kind of damage it's a real bummer. Might be worth calling their customer service instead of just the store, I've seen people get refunds or credit for stuff like that. Take it with a grain of salt but don't just eat that loss without at least trying.

@ninah10 is right about that store to store thing. Seems like everything now is just a gamble, not just electronics but even buying food or getting a haircut. You either get the good version or the "we just don't care" version and you never know which one until you're stuck with it.
