I was totally wrong about how to price my freelance writing work.
For a year, I charged $50 per article because I thought that's what the market would bear. Then I saw a post from another writer in my city who shared her actual monthly income and rates, and she was getting $200 for the same length piece. The key was she showed her portfolio and case studies for every client. I redid my website last month to add three detailed project breakdowns, and I just landed a client at $175 per piece. Has anyone else found that showing your work process is the secret to raising rates?

Yeah, that's a huge jump. I'm curious about what you actually put in those project breakdowns. Were you showing drafts and edits, or more like the business results your writing got for the client?

Sounds like a lot of work for a portfolio.
