Looking back, digital art showcases used to feel more handmade. Now with all the apps, it's slick but kinda samey.

Just opened an old .psd from like 2012 and you can't even see the brush work anymore, it's all blended into one smooth layer. That used to be the whole point, you could see where someone spent hours on a hair strand or a fabric fold. Now everything has that same soft, airbrushed finish, like it all came out of the same filter factory. I miss when you could tell someone actually drew the thing.

Photoshop CS5 had that issue too. I found that lowering the layer opacity can sometimes reveal the original brush strokes. @ward.fiona, you might try duplicating the layer and setting the blend mode to multiply. Also, check for any adjustment layers that might have been flattened. I've recovered a few old drawings by turning off those layers. It takes some time, but you can often get back that detailed look.
