Spent $350 on a portable monitor for my remote setup and it's just gathering dust
I bought a compact monitor last year thinking it would be a game changer for working from hostels and cafes in Bali (you know, that whole digital nomad dream). Turns out I barely use it because my laptop screen is fine for writing and emails, plus hauling the extra weight in my backpack is a hassle. Has anyone else dropped cash on gear they thought would help the nomad life but it ended up being a waste?

Wait, are you actually saying carrying an extra pound of gear is worse than squinting at a tiny laptop screen all day? I use my portable monitor every single day and it's literally the reason I can actually get work done in noisy cafes without wanting to throw my laptop out the window. You must have bought one of those flimsy 13 inch ones that are basically a tablet screen with no stand, not a proper 15 inch model with a good kickstand and decent brightness. The extra weight is nothing compared to the back pain you'll save by having a second screen at eye level instead of hunching over like a shrimp. Plus if you ever need to do any real multitasking like comparing documents or having a video call while referencing notes, that second screen is a lifesaver. Sounds like you just bought the wrong monitor and gave up instead of getting one that actually works for your setup.
