Just use a bit of thin-set to stick the spacers down. It's like most things, if the small parts can move, the whole thing goes sideways.

Oh please, tell me you didn't just trust those little plastic devils to behave on their own. They have a one track mind, and that mind is set on sliding around and ruining your straight lines the second you look away. A dab of your tile adhesive is the only thing that stops the mutiny. It's like herding cats, but the cats are squares and your sanity is the carpet. You basically have to glue them down for their five minutes of useful life before you bury them forever. So much for those fancy bag claims about 'stay put' spacers, right?
