Rant: My buddy in the Denver office told me to stop drawing every single line
He said, 'You're drafting a building, not a fingerprint.' I used to think detail was everything, but now I see how it just clogs up the prints. Anyone else get stuck on over-drawing?

Oh man, that hits home. I once drew individual screws on a duct connection. INDIVIDUAL SCREWS. My boss asked if I was planning to install them myself. It’s a hard habit to break when you start out thinking more lines mean better work. But your buddy is right, it just makes a mess nobody can read. Now I try to ask if a detail actually helps build the thing or just makes me feel thorough.

But what if that mess is actually the right amount of detail for the fabricator? Some shops need every screw called out to avoid guesswork and costly errors in the field. Maybe the real problem is assuming one style of drawing fits all, instead of asking what the person building it actually requires to do their job.

Ever feel like you're just drawing for the person who checks your work and not the guy who builds it? Emery_taylor3's screw story is too real. It's so easy to overdo it when you're trying to be good at your job.
