Rant: My local news site lost its traffic after a redesign

They had a steady 200k monthly visitors, but after a 'modern' redesign six months ago, it dropped to 80k. The new layout buried local headlines and loaded too many ads first. Has anyone else seen a site tank after a visual update?

Wait, they lost over half their people? That's insane. I mean, you don't just throw away 120k visitors because someone wanted a shiny new button. Loading the ads before the actual news is a death sentence, people will just close the tab. It sounds like they fixed what wasn't broken.
