The paper sketch habit that turned my fence jobs around
Eyeballing post spots led to messy jobs. I began drawing the full fence line on graph paper before digging. I mark trees and utility lines clearly. This helps spot issues early. Once, I almost placed a post over a septic tank. The sketch showed it in time. My crew saw it cuts down on rework. I notice more teams doing this now quietly. Jobs flow better with fewer hiccups. Customers are way more pleased.

Wait, they had to evacuate three houses because of a hit gas line? That's terrifying, just imagining the hissing sound and people rushing out. It shows how faded marks or rushed plans can cause real danger. Sketching it out like the post says seems like a basic step that stops nightmares. I'm shocked more crews don't shout about this method if it prevents such close calls. This kind of mistake is way too common and it's scary how much relies on clear marks.

Heard about construction guys who marked utilities wrong last year. They ended up slicing through a fiber line and took out internet for half the street. Makes you realize how crucial those clear marks really are.

My friend's neighbor had a similar thing happen with a gas line last fall. The marks in the grass were faded and the crew hit it with a backhoe. That hissing sound was scary, and they had to evacuate three houses on their street for hours.
