Unpopular opinion: Relatives who suggest cheap fixes ruin good furniture.
Tbh, my sister in law saw me prepping a maple dresser and told me to just slap some floor polish on it. Honestly, it took everything not to lose it. That kind of well meaning but terrible advice is why so many pieces get wrecked. I spent an hour later explaining why a proper oil finish was the only way to go. Sometimes you have to defend the craft from your own family.
