Changed my mind about small claims court after a buddy's story
I always thought small claims court was a waste of time for anything under a grand, but my coworker Mike took a landlord to court over a $800 security deposit in Scarborough. He said the forms were dead simple and he won in 20 minutes without a lawyer. Has anyone else had luck with that process for like damage deposits or contractor disputes?

Actually small claims court in Ontario handles claims up to $35,000 now, not just under a grand.

35 grand is a whole different ball game from a broken lawnmower dispute. Last time I checked the forms it was 25k, now they just keep creeping it up. Guess they figure if you're gonna waste everyone's time in court, might as well make it worth the headache. Honestly at 35k you're probably better off getting a real lawyer anyway. But hey, at least now I can sue my neighbor for his crummy fence AND his questionable taste in Christmas lights in one go. Small claims court is turning into a mini version of the real legal mess.
