Had a talk with my landlord about fixing a leaky faucet...

He told me to just 'tighten it more' but I found out after 2 hours of wrenching that the rubber washer was shot and cost me $3 at Home Depot on Queen Street. Why doesn't anyone just say what the actual problem is from the start?

Ugh, the "just tighten it more" advice is the worst. I had a similar thing with my bathroom sink where the handle just kept spinning and I spent a whole afternoon cursing at it before realizing the set screw was stripped. It's like they think we're all just messing around for fun instead of trying to fix something that's literally dripping water and wasting money. That $3 fix feels like a huge win after all that frustration though.

Oh man, "@tessa_hill86 'literally dripping water and wasting money' is exactly the thing that gets me. People don't realize how fast that dripping adds up on your water bill, and then you're stuck there with a wet floor and a bad mood. And yeah, the stripped set screw is a classic move. I've had that exact same fight where you keep tightening and tightening and nothing happens. It's like the faucet is just mocking you. That $3 fix is a total victory though, feels way better than it should for how cheap it is.
