inThat $15 soldering iron from Harbor Freight actually works okay
That thing about cheap irons teaching you good technique is spot on, @faithf77. I had a similar experience where my tip started oxidizing quick because I let it sit too long without cleaning it. Learned real fast to wipe it on a damp sponge and re-tin it after every couple joints. Honestly, that habit stuck with me even when I upgraded to a nicer iron. The Harbor Freight one is finicky about the tip staying clean, but once you get that down, you can do most basic soldering jobs without any trouble. You just gotta be patient and not rush your joints.

inI finally understood why my extractions were causing redness after a workshop in Seattle.
Hang on, could it be the tool material that's the real factor here? I've seen cheap metal spatulas with rough edges tear skin no matter what angle you use. Maybe your friend's pro was using something that wasn't properly finished or had a burr on it. Does anyone check their tools under a bright light before starting?

inInternal emails vs town halls - which actually moved the needle at your company?
Yeah, that warehouse confusion hit home for me. I've seen the same thing happen more than once. The big town hall is great for hype and big picture stuff, but it's terrible for details that people need to actually use in their day jobs. People zone out after the first ten minutes, or they get stuck on one thing and miss everything after it. Short, clear emails they can read on their own time and go back to later have worked way better for me. We did a weekly email blast for a shift schedule change and had way less pushback than any all hands meeting ever got. Have you tried a hybrid approach where you use a short town hall for the "why" and then follow up emails for the "how"?

inTook me 3 tries to get my hollandaise right this morning
Hot butter, not melted cold butter is key. And keep that water barely simmering, just little bubbles. If it starts to look thick, a splash of cold water brings it right back.

inRealized my cubicle clock was 8 minutes fast and nobody cared
It's wild how many little systems like that exist everywhere, where the broken thing becomes the normal thing and everyone just adapts around it. Makes you wonder how many bigger things we do that too, like at the DMV or in traffic patterns.
