You say it works if you stay on top of it, but from what I've seen, that plan falls apart fast. The chargers at my local grocery are often broken or in use, so I've been stranded with low battery more than once. Relying on public spots means planning your life around charging, and that gets old quick. Your mileage may vary, but for me, it turned into more stress than it was worth.
