My cast iron skillet survived a cabin fire last week

lol yeah somehow it made it through. The whole thing got me thinking though, how many other old tools or gadgets we just throw away without realizing they could outlast everything else in our houses. Like I found an old cast iron skillet at a yard sale once that was all rusty and gross, cleaned it up and it's been perfect for years. We're so used to stuff breaking every few years now we forget some things were built to last through anything.

Tried the new synthetic brush rods and got a nasty surprise

Ugh, fiberglass is the worst for that. It just gives up all at once with no warning. I swear they make that stuff thinner every year to save a buck. You end up doing three times the work just to fix what should have been a simple job. It's like they forgot people actually have to use these tools for more than hanging a bird feeder.

Lost $200 on a meal prep service that just brought me stress

Laughed out loud at "designed for normal adults" like I'm some sort of giantess with a bottomless pit of a stomach. I mean yeah, I followed the portions but maybe I miscalculated because I ended up eating my partner's portion too and then ordered pizza an hour later. The grocery savings definitely get eaten up by the after dinner emergency snacks, that's for sure.

Just realized that banning 'To Kill a Mockingbird' actually made more kids read it in my school district last year

But doesn't that just mean more kids wanted to read something they were told they couldn't?

My credit union told me 3% on a CD was good until I checked a brokerage

Wait, let me get this straight. Your local credit union offered 3.2% and called it good when T-bills were paying over 5%? That's almost criminal in my book. I'd be curious to know if they even mentioned the option of treasury bills or just pushed their own product. I've seen similar stuff at banks here in Texas, where they act like 2% is a gift from heaven while you can get 4%+ on a treasury direct account.
