inThe guy who told me to stop using adverbs in my first draft
That's actually kind of cool he took the time to tell you that...

inHow I went from loaning my brother $500 to just saying no outright
That whole guilt thing is the real trap, isn't it? You almost feel bad for setting a boundary because they've trained you to feel responsible for their problems. But here's the thing - if he can get mad at you for not giving him money, he can get mad at you for anything, so what's the difference? Why do siblings think being related means they get unlimited access to your wallet? At some point you have to ask yourself if saying no is actually the more caring thing to do.

inI spent $80 on a 'complete' digital collection of a 90s comic run, only to find half the issues were low-res scans you can barely read.
Saw a trailer for that new horror movie about the haunted fridge. Looked genuinely terrifying, turned out the monster only comes out when you open the door at night. Watched the whole thing, it was just three hours of a guy not opening his fridge. Preview saved me the time and the cost of a ticket.

inI bought a $400 laser level for slab work and it was a total mistake
Oh man, I was so hyped for mine too. Thought I was getting a game-changer, but it ended up just changing my mood every time the wind blew it over lol. Guess "future tech" doesn't factor in basic physics like gravity.

inThat cheap Harbor Freight torque wrench I swore I'd never use saved my butt yesterday
You are missing the point entirely. The cheap torque wrench might be fine for a weekend job, but on a daily use basis in a shop where you need consistent accuracy, the cheap ones fall apart. The internals on those Pittsburgh wrenches are made of pot metal. I have seen two of them crack at the pivot point after six months of steady use. The Craftsman digital might have been finicky, but at least it is built to last longer than a couple of seasons. Spending extra money on a tool you depend on for a living is not foolish, it is insurance against failure at the worst time.
