PSA: That 'sticky' film advance lever on a Pentax K1000 can be a real trap

When you said "invisible piece of dried foam" that hit me hard because same thing happened to me with an old Minolta. @the_jennifer I bet you've seen some similar weird stuff in your day, what was the dumbest thing you ever got tricked by? I swear some of these old cameras just want to mess with you on purpose, hiding junk in the last place you'd ever look. Makes you wonder how many other "broken" cameras are out there with just some random gunk jamming them up.

Foundation crack repair went sideways on me hard

My cousin tried one of those DIY kits on his garage floor crack after a bad freeze, and it looked perfect for like two weeks. Then his dog dug a hole right outside that spot and water just poured in during the next storm. He ended up having to dig up the whole side of the house to put in a French drain, which cost way more than just fixing the crack. It's funny how these little projects always seem to snowball into way bigger problems than you planned for.

Pro tip: I learned the hard way about mixing paint in a cold garage last winter

Huh, that actually makes a lot of sense.

Bought a $800 vacuum sealer and my freezer is now a museum of forgotten leftovers

I bought a $800 vacuum sealer and my freezer is now a museum of forgotten leftovers" - that line got me. I did the same thing but with a cheaper one, like $150 from Target. I went wild sealing everything - bags of broccoli, chicken breasts, even the half-eaten pizza from last week. Now it's all frozen in time, like a time capsule I'm scared to crack open. My wife keeps asking about the mystery brick labeled "July soup" and I just shrug. Is there a support group for this?

Hot take: That pushy customer service rep was actually right about extending my warranty

$200 for a 3 year warranty on an $850 laptop is actually a decent deal when you break it down. I manage rental properties and handle all the appliance warranties for my units. People think they're getting scammed but electronics fail way more often than manufacturers admit. That dead pixel line you mentioned is a common issue with cheaper LCD panels. Next time you buy something expensive, check if your credit card offers an extended warranty benefit. Most Visa and Mastercard cards will double the manufacturer warranty up to an extra year for free. Also, some states have implied warranty laws that cover defects for a reasonable time after purchase, so you might have had a case if you pushed harder. Sorry about the botched screen repair, that's why I always tell people to go through the manufacturer for warranty work even if it costs more upfront.
