inJust realized the new manager at my store actually fixed the schedule mess
My old gym had a broken water fountain for 8 months. They put up a "coming soon" sign for a new one. It showed up 2 days later. Like @mia592 said, we're so used to empty promises that actual follow-through feels like a magic trick. It makes you wonder how much gets left broken just because no one does the simple thing they said they would.

inWarning: I think we're too quick to push apprentices onto the band saw
Ugh, exactly. And it makes everything feel the same. When nobody learns the slow, hands on way first, all the work starts to look and sound copy pasted. We lose the weird little choices that give something its own soul. It's not just about skill, it's about what gets lost when we only teach the shortcut.

inRemember when you could fix a toaster with a screwdriver and a prayer?
Exactly, it's not like we're all trying to become electricians. Most of the time it is just a loose wire like @julia892 said, and you can see that without a manual. The whole process of finding a manual and getting a multimeter just turns a ten second check into a whole afternoon. New toasters are cheap, and my free time isn't.

inPaid $80 for a 'smart' trash can that opens when you wave your hand
Maybe it's just me but a broken sensor feels like a feature, not a bug.

inPro tip: I tried a 2% solution of horticultural oil on a young red maple in early spring instead of my usual dormant spray.
Actually it's more about the salt they use for de-icing than oil from roadwork. The salt gets into the soil and the tree can't take up water right. Saw it kill three red maples on my old street after a tough winter. The roots just dry out even if the ground looks wet.
