inVent: My first field season in Turkey and I almost lost a pottery sherd down a ravine
That orange flagging tape trick is the real deal. I had a similar panic with a tiny obsidian flake in New Mexico, sun was glaring right off it. I just froze and yelled for my partner to come tape a big X on the ground around me before I even breathed. It sounds silly but when something that small is the only proof of a whole activity area, your brain goes into full rescue mode. You just know it's going to blend right into the ground the second you look away.

inA regular at my old coffee shop taught me a lesson about names
Ever think about how many people you see but never really know? I had a guy at my gym who just nodded for months. One day I made a point to use his name from his membership tag. His whole face changed, like he was surprised someone noticed. Now I try to learn one regular's name a week at the grocery store. It costs nothing and it clearly matters to them. That old guy was right, it's about being seen.

inI tried writing a story from a prompt versus making my own idea from scratch
My buddy Dave tried writing with no prompts for a month. He just stared at his screen most days. Finally caved and used a simple one about a lost key, wrote his best story in weeks. Guess he needed that fence.

inMy character art looked flat for years... then I tried a new lighting trick
Honestly, focusing on the shadows first is a solid move. I always block in the darkest areas before anything else. It gives you a clear map for your mid-tones and highlights. Like if you're drawing a tree, get that deep shadow under the branches down, then build out from there. It keeps everything from getting muddy later on.

inMy pork shoulder trim was a mess until I saw a kid's drawing
I used to trim my pork shoulder like a block of cheese until a cooking show host pointed out the muscle seams.
