Appreciation post: that $50 knee kicker upgrade saved my back on a 2000 sq ft job today

Yeah, I gotta push back on that a little, @quinnbailey. Half the time "suffering" through cheap tools just means you got the job done fine but now you're romanticizing the struggle. A new tool feels good for a week, then it's just another thing sitting in your garage.

My sourdough went from dense bricks to airy loaves after 3 months of daily feeding

Hold on wait THREE MONTHS of daily feeding? That is some serious dedication right there. I was ready to give up after like two weeks of that sticky mess and my kitchen smelling like a brewery. But discarding less is actually a game changer, I started keeping more of my starter in the jar and only tossing maybe a quarter cup and suddenly my bread had bubbles everywhere. The feeding time thing is huge too, I swear my sourdough knows when I hit snooze and gets all grumpy and flat. It's wild how such tiny changes can turn a frisbee into actual bread you can toast without breaking a tooth.

My brother in law made me realize I've been overcomplicating my code

Why do you think simplifying is always better? Yeah, your brother in law got the gist of it, but sometimes those loops and async functions exist because the simple version would break under real conditions. I've tried cutting corners before and ended up with a buggy mess that took twice as long to fix. There is a line between overcomplicating and actually handling the edge cases you know are coming down the road.

I finally switched to console after 15 years of PC gaming

The transition makes a lot of sense, honestly. Spent years messing with config files for Arma 3 and still getting stutters, while my brother's Xbox just ran stuff fine out of the box. That trade off of tweaking for hours versus just playing the game gets old after a while. 30 fps feels weird for maybe a day, then your brain just adjusts and stops caring. Hope the 3080 sells quick, those cards still go for decent money.

Serious question, does a detailed grocery list actually save more than a rough one?

It's almost like the more specific you get with anything in life the better the results. Groceries, budgets, even daily to-do lists. We think we know what we need but our brains are lazy and fill in the gaps with extras. Being precise forces you to actually think instead of just wandering around the store grabbing stuff. That $40 a week probably adds up to a whole lot of other areas too if you looked close enough.
