Man, I always thought putting it off made it worse. Finally starting it was way easier than all that dread built up in my head.

You're right about starting cutting through the dread. (It's like breaking a seal on something scary.) But the tricky part can be keeping momentum once you begin, not just taking that first step. I've avoided tasks because I worried about doing them perfectly, which adds another layer to the dread. That fear can sneak back in if the work turns out to be boring or really difficult. So while jumping in is a big help, being patient with yourself during the grind matters too. It's about starting and then not letting the old worries take over again.
