Spent 6 months on a birdhouse project and hit 47 pieces

I was building this giant Victorian-style birdhouse as a gift for my mom, and I kept adding more details like tiny balconies and a little chimney. After 6 months of tinkering in the garage, I counted all the individual wood pieces and it added up to 47. Has anyone else been surprised by how many parts a simple project can eat up?

47 pieces for a birdhouse sounds like overkill to me. I get that details take time but you could have knocked out 5 simple ones in that span that birds would actually use. Maybe try a simpler design next time so you don't burn 6 months on something that's gonna sit in the rain.
