Unpopular opinion: That guy who told me to 'just use gorilla tape' for my tent patch was wrong

I was fixing a tear in my tent after a trip to Mount Rainier last month and some redditor swore gorilla tape would hold for the season. It peeled off after 3 nights in the rain and I had to bug out early. Has anyone else had a specific fix that just straight up failed on them?

Did you try cleaning the area with alcohol first before applying the tape? That step makes a huge difference, tape sticks way better when the surface is totally clean and dry.

Yeah I totally get that, @emma_burns96, reminds me of when I tried to fix my bicycle chain with duct tape and it just flapped off in the wind.
