I swear, leaving a project like this unfinished (with the brush still in the can, I mean, come on) just proves that starting something you can't finish is worse than never trying at all.

Exactly, it's that exact moment of overcommitment. @aaron806 has a point about what made them stop, but for me it's bigger. You see this everywhere, people biting off more than they can chew because they only picture the perfect finished thing. Then reality hits, like the sun going down or your back hurting, and you just walk away. It creates these little pockets of guilt all over our homes and lives. The worst part is now you have to look at your own bad choice every single day.
