Shoutout to the guy at Ye Olde Hardware on Eubank who told me to skip the caulk and fix my shower leak right
My shower had been dripping into the wall for about 6 weeks and I was ready to buy a $9 tube of silicone and call it done, but the older guy at the counter told me the leak was coming from the cartridge and caulk would just trap water behind the tile. He was right, the $32 cartridge swap took me 40 minutes and the drip stopped that night. Anyone else get steered away from the quick fix and end up glad they listened?
How many of us have stood in that same aisle convincing ourselves the cheap fix would work? I did the exact same thing with a tub spout once, slathered silicone on it like frosting on a cake, and the ceiling below still ended up with a nice brown water stain. Sometimes the guy behind the counter knows more than the whole internet combined, in my experience.
