Swapped my $38 faucet aerator for a $4 one at the True Value on Montgomery and the hammer noise finally quit

Used to just crank the shutoff valve halfway closed to kill the banging pipes at night, which worked but made the kitchen sink trickle like a drinking fountain. Anyone else got a cheap fix that turned out better than the fancy one?
