Grocery store checkout line changed my take on booking catchups

Last Thursday I was in line at the Kroger on 5th and overheard two women talking. One said she has a friend she texts daily but only sees twice a year now. The other said they do a monthly standing dinner, no rescheduling unless someone is sick. That hit me. I always wait for a good time to meet up with my buddy Dan, and we've gone 7 months without grabbing a beer. I texted him right there and set a repeating first Tuesday thing. We had our first one yesterday. Six months of "sometime soon" solved by a dumb calendar slot. Anyone else find that rigid plans beat flexible ones for keeping friends close?
