Showerthought: my buddy asked me to be his best man and then ghosted me for 3 weeks

Last Tuesday my old college roommate Derek called me all excited and asked if I'd be his best man at his wedding in Nashville this October. I said yes right away, we talked for like 45 minutes about tuxes and a speech, and he promised to send me dates for the bachelor party by that Friday. It has now been 19 days, he has not answered a single text or call, and I found out from another friend that he asked someone else too as a backup. I'm not even mad about the backup thing, I'm mad that I spent $80 on a flight to visit him for a planning weekend he never confirmed. Has anyone else had a friend basically hand you a big role and then just go silent? Do I say something or just wait him out?
