Spent $75 on a board game to break the ice with new neighbors

We moved in a few months ago and I wanted to meet the couple next door. I bought a party game that was supposed to be easy and fun for groups. The first time we played, it got super awkward because one of them is really competitive and the other just wanted to chat. Now the game sits on my shelf, and I see them taking out their trash. Has anyone else bought something to help make friends that totally backfired?

That "super awkward" first game is the worst feeling.

Oh man, that feeling is the worst. I bought a fancy coffee maker last year thinking I could have people over for casual hangs. My one neighbor came over, took one sip, and told me they only drink tea. The whole thing just made it more weird, and now I avoid my own kitchen when I see them. That machine mocks me from the counter every single morning.

But that's the whole point of the machine, right? You bought it for you, not for them. So what if your neighbor drinks tea? That fancy coffee is for your own mornings now. Letting one awkward moment ruin your kitchen vibe seems like a bigger loss. Why not just own it and make the coffee you love?
