Glad it stopped at edible toast. Seen some real disasters where the smoke alarm was the main course. Makes you wonder why toasters don't have better safety features. My old one would just keep heating until you unplugged the thing. Almost set off my own drill more than once.

Seriously, how many people actually burn down their kitchen with a toaster? Most of us just yank the plug if it starts acting up. It feels like making them smarter would just add cost and more things to break. I've had the same basic toaster for years and the biggest disaster is some uneven browning.
