Am I the only one who depends on the air fryer to manage my mom's new diet restrictions?
My mom moved in with us after her doctor said no more fried foods, which has been a big change for our family meals. I've been using the air fryer to make her favorite foods like crispy fish and roasted veggies without all the oil, but she says they taste bland. My kids miss the old deep-fried snacks, and I'm stuck trying to please everyone without spending all night in the kitchen. I've tried a few recipes from online, but some turn out too dry or not crunchy enough (you know how that goes). Does anyone have go-to seasonings or tricks to make air-fried food taste more like the real deal? I'm especially looking for ideas that work for picky eaters and older folks who are set in their ways. Any advice would be a huge help, because right now, dinner time feels like a guessing game.

What about a light spray of olive oil before cooking? I brushed some on my potatoes last week and even my finicky uncle asked for seconds.

That olive oil trick can backfire (trust me, I learned the hard way). It often makes things steam instead of getting crispy, and it can even set off your smoke alarm if you use too much. The real game-changer for me was ditching the wet stuff and using a good dry rub right on the food before it goes in. Something simple like garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika makes a huge difference. Letting things sit with the seasoning for ten minutes before cooking helps the flavor stick way better than any spray.
