I was preheating my air fryer empty for 6 months until my sister asked why the chicken always came out dry
Honestly I always thought preheating an air fryer empty was just something you had to do, like a rule. My sister was over at my place in Boise back in April and watched me hit 400 degrees with nothing in the basket for 5 minutes and she just stared at me. She asked why I was cooking the air. That sounds dumb but it made me start poking around and I found out most of these baskets heat up in like 60 to 90 seconds on their own anyway. The real issue was I was losing all that heat when I dropped cold food in and then cranking the time to make up for it. So chicken thighs that should take 18 minutes were going 26 and coming out like jerky. Now I only preheat if I'm doing something thin like fish or frozen fries, and even then it's 2 minutes max, not 5. My wings got way better, way juicier, and I stopped burning the tops of anything breaded. Has anyone else been told you have to preheat or is that just something people repeat online without checking?
