Honestly, I've used year-old mud from the back of my garage and it was fine. That 90 day thing sounds like a sales pitch to get you to buy more stuff.

I used to push beginners straight to deep sky stuff, but Sean's timeline makes way more sense. Getting the basics locked in on easy targets first saves so much frustration later. Three months is plenty before moving on.

Bigger house is nice but that drive will eat up your free time, makes you wonder if it's worth it.
