A customer's offhand comment about my solder work made me rethink my whole process

They said my joints looked 'cold and grainy' on a vintage radio board, which was totally right. I started pre-tinning every single pad and component leg before joining them, and my connections are way cleaner now. Anyone have other tips for avoiding those dull, weak joints?

Honestly, I skip pre-tinning most of the time. A hotter iron and good flux gets me a clean joint in one go.

Cold and grainy" is such a perfect way to describe that. Been there for sure. Pre-tinning is a total game changer, makes everything flow so much better.
