Debate: Should I keep chasing a mag chip light during line checks or just sign it off as intermittent?
I spent 2 hours last shift chasing a mag chip light on a PT6 that kept flickering during runs but never came back after a filter check... my lead says that's normal and to kick it down the road, but my gut says if I let it fly and it fails, I'm the one holding the bag.

ugh, that's the worst kind of call to make. your gut feeling is usually right in this job, especially with mag chips on a pt6. i'd rather waste an afternoon chasing it down than have it fail and be the one explaining why i didn't.

Oh yeah, "explaining why I didn't" is the part that keeps me up at night for sure. I had a similar situation last year with a PT6 where the mag chip reading was borderline, and I almost let it slide because the pilot was in a hurry. Ended up pulling the screen and found a chunk of metal that would've been a whole different conversation if I'd let it go.
