Told my book club I was quitting after their wine rule meltdown

I joined a neighborhood book club about 8 months ago. It was fine at first, we read some decent stuff and mostly just chatted. Then last month a woman brought a bottle of wine that was not on the approved list. The host flipped out and said we have 'standards' and anyone who brings unapproved drinks can't come back. This is a book club for grown adults, not a sommelier exam. I told them I was done and walked out. Now two of them are texting me saying I overreacted and it was just a joke. But honestly, if grown adults can't handle a cheap bottle of cabernet without drama, I don't know what we're doing here. Has anyone else quit a hobby group over rules that got way too controlling?
